Quinta dos Bons Ares is located in the Douro Region, Douro Superior sub-region. It has an area of 47 hectares, at an altitude of 600 metres de altitude, and vines unfolding along the gentle slope. Different grape varieties were planted here.
The soils are granitic in origin, with a sandy loam mixture, the percentage of sand at about 80%, unstructured, very fertile in organic matter and more acidic than schist soils. Note the poor water retention capacity of these soils, in addition to a groundwater table that is very close to the surface. The summer temperatures, cooler than in most regions of the Douro Superior, and higher rainfall (about 400 mm) are due to the altitude of Quinta dos Bons Ares.
The wines made from the grapes grown at Quinta dos Bons Ares are fresh, aromatic and with balanced natural acidity.
